How to Clean Exterior of House Professionally

Even when you are an expert in cleaning your home’s interior, handling the exterior can be daunting, especially if you are new to the job. Cleaning your home on the outside has many benefits, including enhancing its beauty, stability, and durability and prolonging its safety.

Exterior cleaning can sound overwhelming. Still, it is straightforward if you understand your property composition and use the correct tools and techniques.

Cleaning your property can be overwhelming, but the results are satisfying and worth the struggle. Use this guide and tips to restore your home’s beauty. Here is a step-by-step guide on cleaning your property’s exterior.

Clean the Roof

When cleaning your home’s interior, you always start from the top, moving downwards. The same applies when cleaning the exterior. The dust and debris from the roof will drip on the walls and fall on the ground, which you can clean later. However, it is advisable to call a roof inspector before climbing to clean, especially if you rarely do that.

Sometimes, fungi, mould, and algae build up under your roof’s shingles. With time, these intruders can weaken eaves and shingles. In addition, you may need to call a professional cleaner due to the complexity and height of this task. Furthermore, using the correct cleaning materials and hose pressure is best to avoid destroying your roof.

Clean the Gutters

Gutters can clog all through the year, not only during fall. Keeping your gutters clean is crucial to avoid flooding water around the foundation and preventing leaks on the roof. Cleaning your gutter will require a straightened clothes hanger, a garbage bag, work gloves, a hose pipe, and a sturdy ladder. Start by identifying a steady and strategic place to access the gutters on the ladder. You can also hire a cleaner.

Do not lean the ladder on the gutters directly, as the weight and pressure can destroy them. If this is the only safe place, consider a gutter guard or a ladder stabilizer for maximum stability. In addition, ensure the ladder is large and strong enough for the job and stands on an even ground.

Remove all the leaves and debris, put them inside the trash bags, and then use a hose to direct the downspout in the correct direction. If you sense any clog, use the straightened hanger to clear this. Hiring an expert will cost you a few dollars if you are height-phobic.

Clean the Shutters and Windows

Clean the outside of your windows using a soft brush or a sponge. You can find an extendable pole to reach the farthest spots. You only need dishwashing soap and warm water for this job. Nevertheless, if your window panes have grime or soot stains, use one-part vinegar mixed with ten-part water or a shop-bought window cleaning solution.

Attention to window frames and other decorative features, such as outer shutters. These are possible hideouts for tiny bugs, spider webs, mould, and algae. However, you may consider professional window cleaning services. These experts will wash your windows thoroughly and efficiently.

Clean the Walls

Cleaning your home’s sidings includes removing cobwebs, algae, and dust. It would help to deep clean your house’s siding at least once a year. However, your home’s siding materials will determine the cleaning tools and solutions. You can use warm water and soap to clean basic dirt and soot. On the other hand, base bleach will come in handy when handling mould or algae.

Additionally, you must know when to use or avoid pressure-washing your walls. For instance, water splashes can damage bricks and wood if washed too high. So, it would be best to use low pressure in such areas. Again, avoid windows, soffits, and eaves when cleaning walls, as the solutions can destroy the materials.

Clean the Porch

The porch is the most likely place you settle down for a chat with friends. Give it a special touch. Clear everything, including furniture, toys, lawn equipment, and tools, before sweeping the lawn clean. Use a cleaning solution that suits your porch material and a soft-bristled brush to remove debris.

For example, you can use kitchen detergent and water for basic cleaning. Otherwise, oxygen bleach will be okay for cleaning moulds and algae. After brushing it clean, use a garden hose to wash out all the cleaning solution and soap. You can use pressure. Please note high pressure is not advisable for painted porches as it can wash out the paint.

Clean the Pavement

A clean pavement, driveway, and patio give an excellent first impression to your visitors. Cleaning pavements may require extra care, especially if there are grease stains and you do not want to destroy the pavement materials.

You can use the same long-handled mop and cleaning solutions from the porch to clean the pavements. However, add detergent to the grease spots and allow them to soak before rinsing them off.
